A wedding! A brand-new book. A contest!
Psst. I’ll let you in on a little secret… I’m not completely bereft that two of my three kids live halfway across the country in Nashville.
Why? Because Nashville—Tennessee as a whole—is a pretty freakin’ awesome place to hang out. If our youngest ends up there (he graduates in May) I may have to start househunting. A part-time house. But down the road, who knows?
We’re here now because our son is getting married! He’s our oldest, the first to take this huge life step, and we couldn’t be happier for him—or more in love with our new daughter. No surprise, he’s picked a wonderful woman to build a future with. (A future that will almost certainly include grandbabies!)
So, yeah, I can see myself living somewhere around Nashville. Wearing fetching boots and hanging out at Parnassus Books petting the shop dogs and chatting with Ann Patchett.
But for this week, I’m unplugging (mostly) from writerly tasks to be wholly present for family and friends. It promises to be a week of love, laughter, and fun—and hopefully some fall color to bring extra magic!
Though I do hope to fit in a visit to Parnassus, where maybe this time the stars will align and I’ll finally cross paths with Ann.
Just in case, I’m packing a big stack of my author bookmarks.
This month’s musings:
- It’s Here! Another fabulous cover
- Join my Tripping Through Stars ARC team
- WIN! A copy of The Exit Strategy by Lainey Cameron AND Little Pink Houses
- Upcoming Bookish Events
- Two great book recommendations and, yes, WINE!
Get a look at this cover!
When does the Good Fairy turn a manuscript into a real book? For me, it fully springs to life the moment I approve the cover.
Last month, you may remember, I shared my doubts that this second cover could possibly measure up to the awesomeness of Little Pink Houses. Well, early opinions are that this one is equally as good… if not better!

So, what do you think?
Or maybe—from the perspective of a mom—it’s not about picking favorites. It’s about appreciating what makes this cover special and unique. And realizing that it’s perfect (and it truly is!) for this particular book.

ARC is an acronym for Advance Review Copy. ARC readers receive a free copy of an upcoming release in exchange for agreeing to post an honest and fair review on one or more sites, such as Goodreads and social media. These early reviews are instrumental in generating early buzz and can really help improve a book’s long-term visibility.

I’m so excited to be teaming up with author and book marketing guru Lainey Cameron to offer not one, but two, books celebrating executive women battling the patriarchy on their own terms.
My review of The Exit Strategy is below in the What I’m Reading section. Trust me, you’re gonna love it.
Tell all your friends! Encourage them to enter, too. And even if you’ve already own a copy of Little Pink Houses, the holidays are just around the corner. You can give this one as a gift!

WHAT I’M READING
The Exit Strategy by Lainey Cameron. Part female friendship story, part revenge novel, pure fun! With a plot that starts off with a bang and compellingly relatable characters, I didn’t want to put it down. Cameron keeps things moving with tons of conflict, plenty of humor, and a few little insightful nuggets that make you think—and tug on your heartstrings. If you love stories about powerful women making life work on their own terms, this one’s for you.

Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan. One of the great things about discovering a well-established author is the long backlist of titles to fill in your TBR list. This is the second of her books that I’ve read, and like Saints for All Occasions, it’s a deeply honest dive into family—the love, the anger, the headache, and all the messy emotions. On top of that, set on the gorgeously moody coast of Maine. If it sounds like your thing, check it out.
Pair with: Like the women I write, the main characters of The Exit Strategy (Ryn and Carly) can often be found drinking wine. Being in San Fran, they’d be sipping a California pinot or cab. But the red I’m currently crushing on is Chateau Tumbleweed’s 2022 Cousin Idd. A Bordeaux blend that leans heavily into Cabernet Franc, this vintage features a splash of Malbec for a hint of spice. Like liquid velvet.
Cheers!
Lisa
